About This Course
The first course in the ʻAha Kumu pathway combines a two-day immersive huakaʻi with a one-day design summit, created for kumu who seek to strengthen their knowledge and practice of ʻōiwi leadership. Kumu will engage in ʻāina-based learning, cultural protocol and practices, moʻolelo, and mele to explore how personal values and ʻike kupuna can inform and inspire leadership that serves both haumāna and the wider community. Guided by ʻŌiwi Edge principles, kumu will reflect on their motivations and perspectives, critically analyze moʻolelo, mele, and hula, and demonstrate their commitment to mālama ʻāina. Through reflective journaling, collaborative dialogue, and engagement with community experts, participants will synthesize their learning into a collaboratively developed draft of the Kumu Leadership Indicators—laying the foundation for continued growth through the ʻAha Kumu pathway. Course enrollment is limited to 'Aha Kumu task force participants.
