Completion of Pathway 1 is a campus-wide expectation for all KSH faculty, as this foundation strengthens our ability to fulfill our promise to haumāna and ʻohana. Please discuss any special circumstances with your division poʻo.
Faculty hired after May 2024: Must complete Pathway 1 Foundations in ʻŌiwi Edge by May 15, 2026.
Faculty hired after May 2025: Must complete Pathway 1 Foundations in ʻŌiwi Edge by May 15, 2027.
Faculty who were previously given the opportunity and incentives from the 2023-2024 rollout of Ka‘aikuahiwi to complete Pathway 1 by May 2025, are now expected to complete it by May 15, 2026.

Pathway 1 is your gateway to our professional development community. Upon completion, you'll unlock access to elective offerings—including a variety of Kaʻaikuahiwi micro-courses, R&D Opportunities like task forces and independent innovation pathways, conference/travel, and Teacher Leadership Pathways currently in development. We designed this sequence to ensure every educator builds the essential skills that maximize the value of specialized training.

Hoʻolauna
Your journey begins here. The Hoʻolauna is a comprehensive introduction with essential information you need to get started, including:

Learning Modules
This is the heart of your course, containing ʻope with all your materials and activities. The delivery of these learning experiences will vary by course format:
For Asynchronous Courses: All modules are available on-demand for you to access at your convenience.
For Synchronous/Blended Courses: Modules will include required, real-time sessions. Your specific dates, times, and location for these sessions are listed in the Hoʻolauna section.
Hōʻike
This is the culminating component where you will find hōʻike instructions, the Canvas link for your submission, and a course survey. After you upload your submission on Canvas, your coach will be notified to schedule a coaching conversation with you. To receive your K credits, you must meet with your coach, have your submission approved, and ensure all learning modules are complete.

Micro-courses in Pathways 1 and 2 are self-paced. Optional blended learning sessions and Hale Kumu discussions may be offered on scheduled dates to support or accelerate your progress. While you can work at your own pace, please note overall pathway completion deadlines may apply.

Pathway 1
Earn 10 K-credits (or $2,500 for Column 6 kumu).
New kumu hired after May 2024 also receive a one-time $2,500 adoption reward if completed by May 15, 2026.
Ongoing Learning
For eligible Kaʻaikuahiwi offerings, earn K-credits (or $ for Column 6 kumu) based on time investment—typically 1 to 20 hours. Check each course for details.
R&D opportunities are not eligible for K-credits; instead, kumu receive applicable stipends for participating in these personalized or collaborative research projects.

Recognition (K-credits and/or financial rewards) processed after completing all required micro-courses
For Ongoing Learning:
Recognition (K-credits or financial rewards for Column 6 kumu) is processed after each micro-course or activity. For R&D opportunities, applicable stipends are processed upon completion of the research project.
