About This Course

The fourth course in the ʻAha Kumu pathway includes huakaʻi, research, and design to refine the Kaʻaikuahiwi Kumu Leadership Pathway. Grounded in the moʻolelo of Māui & Kana and visits to wahi pana such as Wailuku, Waiānuenue, and Moku Ola, participants will explore themes of ancestral connection, moʻokūʻauhau, curiosity, creativity, and risk-taking, connecting these to ʻōiwi leadership. Kumu will engage in kilo, cultural protocol, and dialogue with community leaders, as well as mālama ʻāina with Hui Hoʻoleimaluō. Each participant will research and present an existing leadership pathway—local or global—that can inform Kaʻaikuahiwi’s model. Kumu will synthesize huakaʻi insights, research findings, and ʻŌiwi Edge principles to revise the Kumu Leadership Indicators and advance the Kaʻaikuahiwi Kumu Leadership Pathway. This work also prepares participants to present their progress at the World Indigenous Peoples Conference on Education (WIPCE). Course enrollment is limited to 'Aha Kumu task force participants.
