About This Course

Explore the world of moʻolelo Hawaiʻi as a cornerstone of ʻŌiwi Edge Learning and Teaching. Participants will engage with Ka Moʻolelo o Pele me Waka to develop critical literacy and practical strategies for integrating moʻolelo into curriculum design. Through podcasts, videos, and interactive activities this course offers a layered approach to understanding, interpreting, and applying moʻolelo in your ʻŌiwi Edge classroom. Focus Areas: - Understanding Moʻolelo: Learn what defines a moʻolelo Hawaiʻi and why these narratives matter. - Critical Literacy: Analyze ways that positionality may impact the understanding of moʻolelo and how power and privilege play into the interpretation of moʻolelo. - Curricular Integration: Use moʻolelo as a dynamic foundation for designing lessons that meet contemporary and future contexts. Through this course, educators will reflect on the complex nuances of working with moʻolelo Hawaiʻi, while exploring practical methods on how to responsibly center them in their teaching practices. Prerequisites: Must complete Pathway 1 prior to taking this course. This ensures that all participants have a foundational understanding necessary to fully engage with and benefit from the advanced strategies and practices covered in this course.
